Who is the Bride of Christ?

CHAPTER 2

A MARRIAGE MADE IN EDEN

Marriage is indeed an event which is ordained, sanctioned, and blessed by God. A loving committed and devoted marriage relationship between a man and a woman is at the very center of God's Will for man. God desired for man to have a helpmate so strongly that immediately following the creation of Adam on the sixth day of creation, God decided to take a rib out of Adam's side and provide a woman who would be a helpmate for Adam. In fact, God longed so strongly and desired so much to provide Adam with a woman to be his helpmate that after God took a rib from Adam's side to make a woman for Adam that God Himself escorted Eve to meet Adam and they were married. Therefore, God not only ordained the first marriage but He became the first escort in the initial marriage between a man and a woman in the Garden of Eden.

Furthermore, through this marriage which God arranged between Adam and Eve, God was foreshadowing His desire to be married and live and dwell with His Bride, the believers in Messiah, for all eternity. We can understand the connection between the marriage of Adam and Eve and Christ and His Church when we consider that the words which are spoken in Genesis 2:23-24 concerning the marriage between Adam and Eve are the same words which are spoken in Ephesians 5:30-32 concerning the marriage between Jesus, the Bridegroom, and His Bride, the Church.

THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN ADAM AND EVE

In Genesis 2:18, God desired to provide a helpmate for Adam as it is written:

'And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.'

Next, in Genesis 2:21-22, God took a rib from Adam and made a woman who was named Eve. Then, God brought the woman to the man and they were married. In Genesis 2:21-22 it is written:

'And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.'

THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN JESUS AND HIS BRIDE

This marriage between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was a foreshadowing of the marriage between Jesus, the Bridegroom, and His Bride, the Church, as revealed in Ephesians 5:23, 27, 30-32 as it is written:

'For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body ... that he (Christ) might present it (the church) to himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish ... For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.'

Let us examine in greater detail how the marriage between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was a prophetic foreshadowing of the marriage between Jesus, the Bridegroom, and His Bride, the Church.

ADAM IS A TYPE OF JESUS (Romans 5:14, 1 Corinthians 15:45-47)
a) Adam was made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26).
b) Jesus is made in the fashion of man (Philippians 2:8).

ADAM IS MADE KING OVER ALL THE EARTH
a) God created Adam to have dominion over all the earth and rule and reign over     God's creation as a king over planet earth. (Genesis 2:19-20, Psalm 8:3-8)

    1) Adam named everything signifying his authority (as a king) over it
        (Genesis 2:19-20).
    2) This is prophetic of Jesus who is given a name by God which is above every         name signifying His authority over all things (Philippians 9:7-11).

b) Adam being made God's king over planet earth during the creation was a     prophetic picture of Jesus who will be King over all the earth for all eternity     (Daniel 7:13-14, Zechariah 14:9).

ADAM GOES INTO A DEEP SLEEP (Genesis 2:21)
(Sleep is a synonymous term for death in the Bible (John 11:11-14)

Sleep is a spiritual picture of the death of the flesh followed by resurrection.
(1 Thessalonians 4:14-17, 1 Corinthians 15:51-53)

Adam's flesh was cut (wounded) - This is a spiritual picture of Jesus' crucifixion.
a) Genesis 2:21 = Incision in the flesh (a picture of Jesus' death) John 19:34
b) Isaiah 53:1, 5 speaks of Jesus being wounded for us

Following the incision made by God to Adam's side (which is a prophetic picture of Jesus' crucifixion), God brings forth a woman named Eve.

This is a prophetic picture of Jesus' purchasing His Bride (the Church) through His shed blood on the cross (Acts 20:28, Revelation 5:9).

Therefore, the marriage between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is a prophetic picture of God's future desire to be married and dwell with His Bride, the Church, through the shedding of the blood of Jesus on the cross.

GOD CREATED MAN SO THAT HE COULD HAVE A BRIDE

God's heart and purpose for creating man in the Garden of Eden was based upon God's desire to have a created being called man whom God would make with a free Will so that man could choose to live and dwell forever with God in His presence. By making this choice, God desired to bestow His love upon man by promising man that God would live and dwell with man for all eternity. God so strongly desired this fellowship with man that God created mankind in the Garden of Eden to fulfill this purpose. In order to show God's heart and love for man and in order to communicate to man the fellowship and relationship that God desired for man, God created Eve from Adam to express through marriage this love and heart relationship that God desired to have with man.

WHY DID GOD DESIRE TO CREATE MAN TO HAVE A BRIDE?

In order to understand the answer to this question, we need to understand what happened in heaven before God created Adam in the Garden of Eden. Lucifer was originally the highest ranking being in heaven next to God. Lucifer's job in heaven was to be the worship leader among the angelic hosts toward God. However, Lucifer desired in his heart to redirect the worship which was to be given to God toward himself. In doing so, Lucifer tried to usurp the position and authority of God in heaven by seeking to overthrow God and His throne and become the Lord of heaven in place of God.

In order to accomplish this plan, Lucifer influenced 1/3 of the angels to rebel with him against God. Because of this, Lucifer was judged by God and thrown out of heaven. Therefore, God not only needed to judge Lucifer and the angels for rebelling against Him but God also needed to prove to the angelic hosts that He was righteous and just in His judgment and punishment toward Lucifer and the angels who rebelled with him against God. At the same time, God desired to fill the worship void in heaven that was being directed toward Him that was now left when Lucifer and 1/3 of the angelic host rebelled against God.

In order to fill the worship void in heaven toward God, He created man in His own image. God desired that man would someday by his own free will worship God with all his heart, mind, soul and strength. Therefore, the prophetic destiny of the Bride of Christ is to worship God for all eternity by giving glory to His name and fill the void which Lucifer left in heaven when he rebelled against God. God not only desires for man to worship God with all his heart, mind, soul and strength based upon a decision of man's free Will but God also desires to return His love upon His Bride for all eternity as well.

Because the future destiny of the Bride of Christ is to assume the place and authority in heaven which was once filled by Lucifer and 1/3 of the fallen angels, Satan has an intense hatred for God and God's Bride. Therefore, Satan plots to destroy not only God and His kingdom but God's anointed and chosen Bride as well. This is the basis for the confrontation which has existed on planet earth from the creation of Adam through the second coming of Jesus Christ as King of kings and Lord of lords. In the end, God has promised to crown His Bride with glory and honor and judge Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels who followed him and rebelled against God by casting them into the Lake of Fire where they will be tormented day and night forever. This is why God created man in the Garden of Eden and this is why God established and ordained the marriage relationship between a man and a woman. God wanted to communicate to the world through the marriage relationship between a man and a woman that God's heart and purpose in creating man was based upon His desire to live and dwell with His future Bride forever throughout all eternity.

SATAN REBELLED AGAINST GOD

In Isaiah 14:12-15, it tells us that Lucifer desired to rebel against God and overthrow the throne of God as it is written:

'How art thou fallen from heaven, 0 Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou has said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the Pit.'

SATAN INSPIRED THE ANGELIC HOSTS
TO REBEL AGAINST GOD

In Revelation 12:3-4, it tells us that 1/3 of the angels were cast out of heaven when Lucifer rebelled against God as it is written:

'And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads, and his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth...'

Jesus told about this event in Luke 10:1-8 as it is written:

'And he (Jesus) said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.'

SATAN WAS ORDAINED AS A BRIDE IN HEAVEN

In Ezekiel 28:13-15, Lucifer is described as having the same characteristics as the future Bride of Christ in Revelation 21. Satan fell because he was exalted by his own beauty and used the wisdom which he was given by God in corruption against God.

In Ezekiel 28:13-15, Lucifer is described as having the same characteristics as the future Bride of Christ in Revelation 21 as it is written:

'Thou (Lucifer) has been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou was created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.'

From the description of Lucifer in heaven, we can see the following characteristics.

  1. He was ordained with all manner of precious stones
  2. He was ordained with tabrets
  3. He was upon the holy mountain of God (Mount Zion)
  4. He was perfect in his ways

The Bride of Christ is mentioned in the Bible as having these exact same characteristics. Let us examine this more closely.

  1. She will be ordained with all manner of precious stones (Revelation 21:9-10, 18-20)
  2. She will be ordained in tabrets (Jeremiah 31:3-4)
  3. She will be upon the holy mountain of God (Hebrews 12:22, Revelation 21:9-10)
  4. She will be perfect in her ways (Ephesians 5)

PERFECT MEANS SPIRITUALLY MATURE

When describing Lucifer in Ezekiel 28:15, the Hebrew word that is translated as perfect is 'Tamim'. It is the Strong's number 8549. It is the same Hebrew word in Exodus 12:5 that is translated as 'without blemish' when God spoke concerning the Passover Lamb. Therefore, the same Hebrew word, 'Tamim,' that speaks about Lucifer when he was in heaven and before his rebellion against God which is translated as 'perfect' in Ezekiel 28:15 is the same Hebrew word that is translated as 'without blemish' in Exodus 12:5 when God spoke about the Passover Lamb. This is the exact same spiritual characteristic of God's Bride as mentioned in Ephesians 5:27 as it is written,

'That he (Christ) might present it (the Church, the Bride) to himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish (Tamim).'

The Hebrew word 'Tamim' which is translated in various places in the Bible as 'perfect, without blemish, undefiled, and sincerity' will be examined in much greater detail later in the book. The Hebrew word 'Tamim' does not mean sinless but rather instead means 'spiritual maturity' This is a major characteristic of God's Bride. It will be examined in detail in Chapter 4.

SATAN AND BABYLON

In Ezekiel 28:16-18, we can see that the method which Lucifer used to rebel against God was violence as well as merchandising and trafficking. Satan is still using these methods today in plotting to overthrow God and God's chosen people. This system of merchandising and trafficking in the Bible is referred to as Babylon. It is through merchandising and trafficking (the world's economic and financial system) that Satan is plotting in these days to establish One World Government through the code name of the 'New World Order'. The method by which the kings and rulers of the earth in conjunction with the international bankers are using to bring the world into a 'New World Order' and One World Government system is to globally link the world and cause the world to be interdependent upon each other based upon economics and finance. From this, we can see that Lucifer is as much in rebellion against God today as when he rebelled against God in heaven.

CONCLUSION OF THE CHAPTER

In this chapter, we examined the marriage between Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. We saw that God ordained this marriage to be a prophetic picture of Jesus purchasing His Bride by shedding His blood on the cross. Prophetically, this is a spiritual picture of the marriage between Jesus and His Bride. In addition, we can understand that it has been the heart and purpose of God from the beginning of time to create man in the Garden of Eden and give him a free Will so that he could choose to have fellowship and communion with God. By making this choice, God desired to pour out His love toward man and have a nation of people who would worship God will all their heart, mind, soul and strength. God promised that He would live and dwell with this special nation of people for all eternity and they would be His Bride forever.

We also examined how the original role of Satan along with 1/3 of the angelic hosts was to worship God in heaven before they rebelled against God. Because of Satan's pride and desire to be worshiped in heaven above God, Satan rebelled against God while seeking to overthrow God's throne.

Because of this, a void was made in heaven. God desired to fill this void by creating man in His own image so that He could eventually have a Bride who would live and dwell with God for all eternity. God desired to communicate this plan and this relationship to man through the institution of marriage. By understanding the love that God purposed for a man and a woman to experience in a Biblical marriage relationship, man could understand how God desired to have spiritual intimacy with His Bride and bestow His love upon her for all eternity by dwelling with her in God's presence for all eternity.
